One unstrengthened low strength cavity wall and three cavity walls strengthened with high strength steel wire and polymer mortar were tested under low frequency cyclic horizontal load. The failure mode, ultimate strength, hysteresis loops, stiffness degradation, and energy dissipation of these walls were analyzed. The test results showed that the bearing capacity and deformability of the strengthened cavity walls increased significantly;the initial stiffness was improved and the stiffness degradation was retarded. The shear bearing capacities of cavity walls before and after strengthening were calculated using empiric formulas and the calculation results were close to experimental results.
