The stiffness requirements of the diagonal bracings in order to maintain the stability of longitudinal columns under the only vertical loads have been investigated in this paper. The lateral stiffness requirements of one-story and two-story longitudinal column-bracing systems without the initial imperfections were introduced.One-story and two-story longitudinal column-bracing systems under the only vertical loads were analyzed using the ANSYS program,in which two order effects on P- and P- were well considered according to the initial imperfections of the actual frames.According to the analysis results, the design formulas of stiffness requirements of the diagonal bracings for one-story and two-story longitudinal column-bracing systems were obtained, and a check method based on the vertical loading analysis was supplied for the diagonal bracings, which is usually designed by the longitudinal horizontal loads.
