As a new type of steel sections, lipped H-section members have excellent load-carrying efficiency and economic efficiency, compared with common H-section members. The load-carrying capacity of lipped H-members under axial load is studied by FEM,where with the large deformation, material elastic-plasticity, the geometric initial deflects and residual stress of the members taken into account, the influence of sectional geometric parameters and slenderness ratio on load-carrying capacity of the lipped H-section members are analyzed. Finally, based on a lot of FEA numerical results obtained, the design formulas are obtained for predicting load-carrying capacity of lipped H-members under axial loads.
