An experimental research on improvement on ground of coral debris mixed with mucky soil by high vacuum densification method ( HVDM) was carried out. Through circulation processing of vacuum drainage and dynamic compaction for three times,groundwater level declined by about 4 m,ground settlement by construction was 68 cm. The improved ground was tested by static cone penetration test ,plate load test,and standard penetration test,the results showed that the bearing capacity value was over 150 kPa and the influence depth was about 10 m. The observation of pore water pressure indicated obvious effect of pressure difference associated with vacuum and dynamic compaction. The tests indicated that HVDM had an excellent effect in the site.
