RESEARCH ON EARTH PRESSURE CONSIDERING DISPLACEMENT AND SOIL ARCHING

  • A calculation method of earth pressure on the retaining wall of different movement models was proposed by taking the soil arching and wall's displacement into account.The relationship between the internal and external friction angle and coefficient of lateral earth pressure were incorporated into the horizontal layer analysis to derive the theoretic formulae of the active and passive earth pressures, the calculated results were compared with those of the test models.It is found that the calculation results are basically consistent with the ones of six models, with the active condition being better than the passive condition and the passive earth pressure of the movement model of rotation about bottom(RB) having the largest error.In general, the present method was taken into overall account the influences of wall movement and soil arching on the distribution of earth pressure.
