  • Ultra-short columns will endure more lateral load because of their large stiffness compared to general columns in an earthquake.The deformation behavior and ductility of extremely short columns are poor due to the shear failure,which decreases the seismic performance of the concrete structure.The seismic performance of four ultra-short columns(two reinforced concrete ultra-short columns and two steel reinforced concrete ultra-short columns) are studied in this paper.The rational suggestions on design are proposed according to the current codes both at home and abroad.
