The requirements for allowable stress design of masonry were retained ane strength design provisions were firstincluded in the American Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures( ACI 530-02 ASCE 5-02 TMS 402-02)in the 2002 edition. Allowable stress and strength design method for bending members are briefly compared and introducedin this paper. The purpose is knowing more about building code for masonry structures in the United States. This will behelpful to compiling new design code for masonry and enhance development of building code of masonry structures in China
