The Old National Museum of China was built in August 1959. Due to restrictions in that period,the
museum could not meet its usage requirements. It has been found that damages occurred in some structural members
and the structures is insufficient for aseismatic ability,which can not meet requirements of relevant standards. In
order to reduce engineering and implement the concept of green design,the reasonable reinforcing project is given
with fully considering development of the future technology. While maintaining the original construction under the
premise of historical style and features, the aseismatic capability of buildings has been enhanced and the building
function has been improved by using comprehensive analysis methods and new technologies. Some useful experiences
have been got in the implementation of green concept in public buildings of structural retrofitting and strengthening.
