APPLICATION OF LADE-DUNCAN CRITERION IN EARTH PRESSURE CALCULATION

  • Based on the strict Lade-Duncan criterion,to take earth pressure problem as plane strain problem,the formulae of the active and passive earth pressure for clay and non-cohesive soil were derived,which could reflect the action of earth pressure more really,considering the intermediate principal stress. Unlike the past papers,the proposed formulae were derived only from the Lade-Duncan criterion,with no help of the SMP criterion. To verify the feasibility of the proposed formulae,the results determined from the proposed formulae were compared with those obtained from the experiment,also with those obtained from Rankine's theory. It was shown that the results determined from the proposed formulae enough safety storage,and were in better agreement with those obtained from the experiment.
