A general damage detecting and safety appraisal of Xidan No. 4 aluminum overpass were done for realizingits technological safety conditions and supporting reference for related safety appraisal of aluminum bridge structures,including the visual detecting,calculation using finite element method,experiment under static load and dynamicproperty measurement. The detecting results showed that the bearing capacity of the overpass could meet therequirements of the design. However,the safety margin and the stiffness were not enough. Some appropriatereinforcement measures should be taken to ensure the safety of the overpass under some special situations such asintensive crowds and emergency evacuation.
