It can be known from the comparison of relevant characteristics of the optimized design by penalty function method for a 30 m span tapered portal frame to the design by the conventional method.So as to achieve the ideal value of the design objective function through the interaction of relevant design parameters for the joints of the inner bearing capacity and the controlled sections.It can be seen by the contrast of relevant characteristics of examples that generally 15%~30% energy can be saved by the optimized design.At the same time, it is proposed that the choice of several reasonable parameters needing attention during optimizing a design.
