DESIGN OF BRBS IN SEISMIC RESTROFITTING OF THE CLASSROOM BUILDING IN A PRIMARY SCHOOL

  • Buckling-restrained-brace(BRB) shows the same load deformation behavior in both compression and tension,it can be both a lateral force resistant and energy dissipation component.Based on the characteristics of school building and BRB mechanical behavior,the appliction of BRBs were introduced in retrofitting the irregular classroom building.Comparative study of the building information before and after retrofitting were done by response spectrum analysis and nonlinear time history analysis.Results showed that BRBs could adjust the torsional and lateral stiffness of original structure when subjected to frequent earthquakes,and when subjected to strong earthquakes,BRBs yielded and provided additional energy dissipation capacity for the main structure.So that evident effect of retrofitting was got.
