OVERVIEW OF THE VARIETY OF DIAPHRAGM WALL FOUNDATION DEVELOPED IN JAPAN IN RECENT YEARS

  • Since the diaphragm wall technique was brought to Japan in the 1960s,the diaphragm wall has been well developed and a series of breakthroughs have been made in materials,joints,machine and applications.By collecting and summarizing a great deal of Japanese references about diaphragm walls,this paper aimed to introduce the developing trend of the diaphragm wall technique in Japan.The main subjects introduced in this paper were:1) the variety in structure properties of diaphragm walls,and a new type of foundation for the composite foundation of diaphragm wall and pile;2) the applications of diaphragm walls in bridge foundations;3) the principle and the relevant research of diaphragm walls as a remedial measure against liquefaction induced by earthquake;and 4) a new type of construction method recently developed in Japan,named the NS-BOX diaphragm wall method.
