Experiment on three 1∶5 specimens of the plant column with web opening subjected to eccentric loading is carried out to study the failure mode,the strain,deformation and bearing capacity.The experimental results exhibit that the capacity and the deformation mode are deeply suffering from the influence of web openings,The effect of improving the mechanical behavior of the column by setting the stiffeners surrounding the opening is quite limited,but evidently by setting both stiffeners and thickening the web,the local shear deformation character is presented in the opening area.The works in this paper could be a reference for the design of congener structural components.
