SEISMIC ISOLATION CONTROL OF LATTICE GRID ROOF WITH SUBSTRUCTURE USING FRICTION PENDULUM SYSTEM

  • Friction pendulum system(FPS)is a type of seismic isolator with spherical sliding surface that is intended for protecting large engineering structures from damages of earthquake.In recent years,large space buildings have been developed significantly.To improve the seismic performance of such buildings,the FPS is installed between the roof and substructure to form a sliding isolation mechanism to reduce the seismic response of the structure.A sliding isolation study is performed for steel lattice grid roof structures with substructures.The 3-D structural models are implemented by using the ABAQUS general-purpose finite element program.In the FE models,the FPS and structural components are simulated respectively with contact surface and beam elements to capture the nonlinear behavior of the structure.Nonlinear time-history analyses are executed to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of the FPS under different parameters.
