In order to analyze the collapsing reasons,the design and construction of a rectangular RC contact oxidation tank are discussed.According to on-site detecting and design recheck,the results can be obtained as follows: the construction quality is favorable,which can satisfy the design and acceptance requirements.But there is serious shortage in design aspect.The wall's local negative moment in horizontal direction and the maximum negative moment in bottom side are too large than the calculative resistance.Under the lateral pressure of water,the plastic hinge line will occur in corresponding position of the wall,so that the support condition is changed,which leads to the collapse of the wall.
