Lipped H-section members and common H-section members are compared in both stability capacity and economic performance.Firstly, different buckling modes of the two types of members are presented, and the difference of stability capacity between them can be seen clearly by the comparison of buckling coefficient of sections.Based on FE analysis considering large deformation and material elastic-plasticity,the economic performance is researched in two aspects: comparison of stability bearing capacity with the same steel consumption and comparison of steel consumption with the same stability bearing capacity. It is proved that lipped H-section members are more economic and effective than Hsection members.
