In the process of concrete structure design, minimum reinforcement ratio and crack width are two requirements needing to be satisfied simultaneously. An axial tension member in a project is analyzed to indicate that the advised value of the minimum reinforcement ratio is incompatible with the crack control requirements in the current concrete design criteria. In this study, the reason of this phenomenon is found out and a suggested value of the minimum reinforcement ratio considering the crack width requirements is proposed, which makes sure that the axial tension member will not only not break suddenly but also satisfy crack control requirements once it has the first crack.
