Stay pre-tension truss-string structure is introduced into the steel roof of Zhengzhou International Conference and Exhibition Center. The introduction of pre-tension is turned into one of primary factors which can affect structural stability performances. Based on this, a rectangular steel roof unit as an example is computed with the help of ANSYS soft. The calculative model subjected to deadweight and pre-tension is attempted to simulate structural initial state by choosing eighteen numerical values, ranging from 0 kN to 1 500 kN of pre-tension suspending cables in this system. The relations between pretension and stability safety coefficients and buckling modes are investigated. The results indicate that changes of pre-tension values can seriously affect stablility performances, in particular, rules of variation of stability safety coefficients and buckling modes can not be followed any longer in the design process. It is suggested that some factors can be taken into consideration when effects of pre-tension on stablity are explored. The work of this paper provides a design basis for the pre-tension value of stayed truss-string structures at initial state.
