SEISMIC DESIGN OF AN APARTMENT BUILDING WITH BOTTOM WEAK STORY

  • In order to insure the seismic performance of an apartment RC building with 61 6m_high bottom story in the area of seismic fortification intensity 7, the frame_wall plan was adopted, in which RC shear walls were arranged at the ends of the building and bottom story. The seismic performance of the building was evaluated based on the static analysis under frequent earthquake, and the nonlinear time history analysis under rare earthquake was conducted. As a result, the lateral stiffness of the bottom story and the integral torsional stiffness of the building are increased, and the seismic performance of the building is improved due to arranging the shear walls, which meets the three_level criterion of the Seismic Code.
