Construction and design of a cast steel joint in beam string structures used for the Exhibitions and Sports Center of Harbin built recently is described briefly in the paper.A full_scale test of the joint and a finite element analysis are carried out.A test setup, experimental and FE calculating results are discussed and stress distributions in the joint are presented.The present investigation indicates that the cast steel joint subjected to its design loads has sufficient strength and rigidity.The results from FE calculation agree well with those from the experiment, which shows static behaviour of the joint can also be found out through FE analysis.The suggestion on fabrication quality of the cast steel joint is proposed in the paper.
