BRITTLENESS AND STRENGTH SIZE EFFECT OF HIGH AND SUPER HIGH STRE NGTH CONCRETES

  • The previous study on high streng th concrete often only devoted to improvement on strength in laboratory.On one hand there does exist strength size effect,on the other hand the brittleness is increased with an increase in strength of concrete,and the phenomenon more pr evalently.So the availability of these studies became suspect.In this paper,base d on size effect law suggested by Bazant,the high strength and super high streng th concrete is studied.It is shown that with the improvement of strength of conc rete the trend that strength of concrete decreases quickly with scale increasing is more pronounced.Furthermore meaning of the study connecting brittleness with size effect is discussed.
