A new type of aseismic structural systemfrict ion damping shear wall is proposed. It is studied that the failure mechanism and mode of the friction damping shear wall under repeated loadings through tests o f three shear walls. The ductility and energy disspation are compared among a mo nolithic shear wall, a slit shear wall and a shear wall with slit and damper. Th e results show that the ductility, energy disspation and dynamic response of the friction damping shear wall are much better than those of other types of shear walls, by which the damage to a structure under earthquake can be decreased.
