A 3D nonlinear finite element method is used to analyze the distribution of prying forces of semi-rigid beam-column connections of a steel structure and the effect of the prying forces on the forced performance of the connections. The maximum of the prying force is deduced according to plastic design theory. And the corresponding computational method ensuring the safety and credibility of such connections is advanced.
