The seismic behavior of steel plate reinforced concrete ( SC) shear walls with an opening was studied
through low frequency cyclic tests. The effects of opening, reinforcing measures and axial compressive forces were
taken into account in the tests. Based on the phenomena observed during the tests and the resulting data, the failure
mode and ultimate loading capacity of SC shear walls were obtained. The obtained results were then compared to those
of nonlinear finite element modeling of the tests.
