THE EFFECT OF ADDITIONAL DIAGONAL BARS ON THE BOND MECHANISM IN A BEAM-COLUMN JOINT
Huang Kun, Au T. K. Francis
2004, 34(11): 34-40. doi: 10.13204/j.gyjz200411010
Abstract:
The inelastic analysis of a beam-column joint is highly dependent on the interaction between the rebars and the concrete. On the one hand, this is caused by the bond-slip effect particularly in the vicinity of the column face that accounts mainly for the stiffness degradation of the whole structural specimen. On the other hand, the bond stresses on the longitudinal bars also affect the shear stress in the panel directly. The proposed use of additional diagonal bars is proved effective to improve the behaviour of interior beam-column joints that are often exposed to the most unfavorable bond condition under reversed cyclic loading. It also avoids congestion of reinforcement in the panel. The presence of diagonal bars prevents the development of both joint cracks and interface cracks, which helps to maintain the stiffness of the joint. The shifting of beam plastic hinge away from the column face may protect the core concrete from yielding penetration and enhance the action of concrete strut. The reduced stresses in the longitudinal bars help to achieve less critical bond condition under the cyclic loading, especially in the lack of column axial force.

Liu Guanglei, Song Erxiang
2004, 34(11): 41-44,26. doi: 10.13204/j.gyjz200411011
Abstract:
The behavior of rigid pile composite foundation under horizontal load is analyzed by using elastoplastic finite element method. It is investigated that the effects of different design parameters on the horizontal forced behavior of the composite foundation, with which the distribution law of internal forces along pile subjected to horizontal load is also obtained. Calculations show that vertical load at proper level will enhance the horizontal load bearing capacity of composite foundation. Due to the effect of the cushion layer in the composite foundation, the horizontal load transferred to piles will be decreased and the pile will be safer.

AN INVERSE METHOD OF PILE FAULTS' IDENTIFICATION VIA FITTING STRESS WAVE CURVES
Zhang Jianlin, Zhang Canhui, Li Mingcheng
2004, 34(11): 54-57,53. doi: 10.13204/j.gyjz200411014
Abstract:
A mathematic model for pile-soil system is established. The method of characteristic lines to solve the stress wave equations is proposed considering the interactions of pile and soil. The optimization method can be used to quantitatively detect the faults in piles, where the soil parameters inversed from a model with complete pile are used to inverse the equivalent stress wave impedance for others with damaged piles and then identify their corresponding faults. Numerical examples of the simulation for experimental piles and of the detection for engineering piles show that the method gives the quite accurate results, especially for those with primary or secondary faults.

Abstract:
By experiment of 23 reinforced concrete columns under eccentric loads, the strength capacity, ductility and failure modes of the columns with and without CFRP bonding are compared and analyzed.Experimental results indicate that when bounded only with longitudinal CFRP,the strength capacity of the columns increased but the ductility of the columns decreased slightly. When strengthened with transverse CFRP,the ductility of the columns improved significantly, and the ultimate strength increased as well. When strengthened by the combined action of the longitudinal and the transverse straps of CFRP,most significant improvement in the strength and the ductility of the columns resulted. On the basis of the experiment, the method of calculating the ultimate strength of eccentrically-loaded columns reinforced by longitudinal CFRP is presented, the calculating results fit well with the experimental data.
