Abstract: The main research was on shaping characteristics of contemporary theatrical buildings. The paper analyzed the shaping motivation of theatrical buildings based on their functions, techniques, aesthetics and cultural connotations; and starting from spatial operations, symbolic metaphors and material optimization, discussed the constructing logic and development tendencies for large-scale public buildings by case study of several existing theatres and concert halls. Finally, shaping approaches to rational construction combining with conceptual design innovation of buildings were analyzed.
