Abstract: It was introduced the characteristics and development prospect of prefabricated steel structure residence． The materials of the matching of external wall is classified and compared，and the project examples are presented． The selection principle of material and the structural requirements of external wall joint connection were given． Through the investigation，the problems and recommendations on the matching of external wall for the prefabricated steel structure residence were proposed．
